  • Late Cretaceous

  • China

  • Herbivore

Yueosaurus, an extinct genus of basal neornithischian dinosaur originating from China's Zhejiang Province, made its debut in 1998 when road construction led to the discovery of its remains. It wasn't until 2012 that a team of paleontologists finally published their findings about this dinosaur. Yueosaurus is classified as a basal ornithopod dinosaur, marking the fifth such discovery in Asia and the southernmost at the time of its identification. This discovery significantly expanded our knowledge of the geographical distribution of these dinosaur types throughout Asia.

Yueosaurus individuals are estimated to have reached approximately 1.5 meters in length, sustaining themselves on a herbivorous diet. They inhabited the Liangtoutang Formation in Zhejiang Province, China, and their existence spanned from the Aptian to the Cenomanian period during the Cretaceous era.
