Wakinosaurus (Wakino Lizard)

Basic facts

  • Early Cretaceous

  • Japan

  • Carnivore

Wakinosaurus is a theropod dinosaur genus that inhabited Japan in the early Cretaceous period.

Originally classified as a megalosaurid, Wakinosaurus is presently categorized as a nomen dubium and an indeterminate neotheropod. The holotype tooth bears resemblance to a serrated leaf with delicate cutting edges.

In 2020, a hypothesis was put forth suggesting that Wakinosaurus might potentially belong to the category of basal carcharodontosaurid theropods, sharing similarities with Acrocanthosaurus.

It is extremly hard to determine information about Wakinosaurus´s appearance or size due to the fact that the only remains found is one tooth.
