Uberabatitan (Uberaba Titan)

Basic facts

  • 85 feet (26m) length

  • Late Cretaceous

  • Brazil

  • Herbivore

Uberabatitan is classified as a titanosaur, a diverse group of long-necked, herbivorous dinosaurs. Its fossils were discovered in the Uberaba Formation of Brazil, hence its name, in a region rich with paleontological treasures. This discovery has greatly expanded our understanding of the sauropod fauna in South America during the Late Cretaceous.

Uberabatitan was a colossal creature, estimated to have reached lengths of up to 85 feet (26 meters) and a weight that rivaled some of the largest known dinosaurs. As a titanosaur, it exhibited typical features of the group, including a long neck, stout limbs, and a robust body. Its elongated neck allowed it to access vegetation at varying heights, enabling it to exploit a wide range of plant resources.
