Rhyncosaurus is a genus of dinosaur belonging to the group Rhynchosaurs. These reptiles were not true dinosaurs but were diapsid archosaurs that shared a common ancestor with dinosaurs. Rhyncosaurus lived during the Late Triassic period, approximately 230 to 210 million years ago. The first fossils of Rhyncosaurus were discovered in modern-day Europe.

Rhynchosaurus was part of the rhynchosaurs family that lived in Europe during the Middle Triassic. It was related to the archosaurs, but not within that group.

Rhynchosaurs were characterized as herbivores, and they were occasionally abundant in certain fossil locations, constituting 40 to 60% of the specimens found. These creatures possessed robust bodies and a formidable beak.
