Basic facts
23 feet (7m) length
Late cretaceuous
Canada
Herbivore
Built like a tank, Euoplocephalus lived during the late cretaceous period. It was well built and armored against bigger dinosaurs. Its back was covered with bony shields and some taller spikes above the shoulders and at the base of its tail.
At the end of Euoplocephalus´s tail, was a giant club that could be swung side to side against predators who attacked it. If swung at full force, this could have breaked bones of attacking predators. A broken anklebone of a dinosaur would have ended up being fatal.
The mouth of Euoplocephalus had a broad beak at the front and a wide palate lined with small teeth. This sort of structure of the mouth and teeth indicated that it wasn´t picky at choosing its food, thus eating almost any plant material it could reach.
Over 40 specimens of Euoplocephalus have been discovered - all isolated finds, indicating that Euoplocephalus would had roamed alone rather than in packs or herds.
