Deinonychus was one of the largest dromaeosaurs (or raptors) to be discovered. After deinonychus was discovered it became increasingly evident that raptors as a whole were very efficent predators.

It was an agile bipedal theropod with large eyes that were slightly facing forwards. It´s brain was relatively large and it had a long narrow snout accompanied with bladelike teeth. Deinonychus had large hands that had three long claws that had potential for wounding even the larger prey. It is also speculated that it could use these claws to climb on their prey whilst attacking it.

It is worth mentioning that Deinonychus jumped, walked and ran mainly on the outer toes on its foot. These toes had long claws, especially its second toe´s claw that was unusually large (5 inches or 13cm). The claw on its second toe had a 180 degree range of motion and was most of the time locked a bit up, ready to be used for killling, when the time came.

Deinonychus is belived to have hunted in packs, similar to many other raptors, since alone it would not pose a threat to bigger herbivores. All in all it was an intelligent and athletic predator of its time.
